BARRON, Wisconsin serves as the seat of BARRON County and boasts a population of over 3,400. October 16, 1908 marks the anniversary of BARRON's greatest disaster. A fire started in the Gordon Bakery and went unnoticed for quite a while. By the time someone reported the fire, it had spread to other parts of the bakery and was more than just a simple oven fire. In all, the fire burnt down 13 residential homes and destroyed five businesses, including BARRON's hotel.

Since that time, BARRON has rebuilt itself into a welcoming town filled with local charm and attractions.

Those interested in nature should make the short drive to Rice Lake. The area is known for its all-terrain vehicle trails, fishing, and scenery. This popular tourist destination is a great getaway for those tired of the hustle and bustle of the big city.

The Loon Lake Wildlife Area is located a short drive from Barron as well. The area stretches more than 3,000 acres and features everything from the Apple River to pothole lakes. Visitors can enjoy cross country skiing, hunting, watching the wildlife, and much more!
